Home from the big trip!

You have reached the website for the Conan Family.  Mike, Michelle, Mason and me, little Luke are embarking on a journey around the U.S. in a 1989 freshly bought 30 foot Pace Arrow Motorhome.  You can learn more by clicking background

We are home!!  What a tour!

We are in Redmond for two more weeks and then we will be headed to South Dakota to take Michelle's parents there.  After that we plan to visit daddy's mom in Gig Harbor for a couple weeks and then hopefully daddy will have a new job.  He still has one in mind, but if that doesn't work out he will be searching the west coast for a new call.  Until then he plans to play something called "golf."  Evidently, it is a game where you are supposed to hit a little ball into the woods, say "shoot" and then hit a ball onto the grass at least that's what daddy does.

We made it and it was quite an experience!!  The motorhome is finally getting the front end aligned as we speak and it was $1500 less than they wanted on the road!  Yeah!  I have a small list of items that need fixing, especially after the awful road into Yellowstone!

Here are the final totals.

Total Miles - 9850 on motorhome and 3900 on the car

Total states visited 29 - We missed North Dakota, 12 states in the middle of the U.S. and the six states in the Northeast corner.  We will try to post a picture soon.

Hi-light for mommy - Washington DC and seeing the president!

Hi-light for daddy - Washington DC, one of the few places daddy hadn't been.

Hi-light for Mason - tie between Fresno and Ocala. . . .you may have read up on those to find out why.

Hi-light for me - Miami Beach or meeting family in South Dakota!

People visited outside Washington state:  Total Family Visited (not including kids) - 21 in 4 states.  Total Friends Visited (not including little ones) - 26 in 10 states, we missed at least 7 friends in 4 different states (maybe next tour).

National Parks - 4 Badlands, Rushmore, Yellowstone and Tetons (we will hit glacier on our way to SD)  Yosemite was too wet.

Caves toured - 2 Carlsbad and Sonoma

Beaches visited - 11  2 OR, 4 CA, 5 Florida

Tourist attractions - 3 Houston Space Center, Disney World and Gatorland

Worst roads - Public - tie between NJ (they were so bad they broke our speedometer cable) and Chicago (daddy thought the car could fall off at 15 MPH)  Ironically both these roads we had to pay to drive on!

Worst road -overall- Yellowstone west entrance, everything came loose in the motorhome including both TV's and a cabinet at 10 MPH!

Worst Traffic - Chicago (it took us two hours to go 20 miles)

Wal-Marts stayed in - 6

Truck Stops stayed in - 2

worst trailer park - Ft Lauderdale

best park - Hart Ranch - Rapid city, SD or Malibu RV Park in Malibu, CA

Most Expensive Park - Malibu, CA $50/night

Least Expensive Park - Our home park in Unadilla, Georgia $1 for cable

best food - Philly!

Highest point (elevation)  9500 feet Big Horn, Wyoming

Lowest Point -8 feet - New Orleans, LA

Total jobs for daddy - 0  (but, hopefully one will be coming soon!)

Houses sold - 2 (ours and Michelle's parents)

Total $ - $85 on Monster trucks, $400 on doctor's appointments, $120 on tolls, $58 to Starbucks for internet, $100 at Fry's for a super long range wireless card,  lots on food, lots on camping.  Note: We can sell the motorhome for more now that we have fixed it up and the tow car is worth the same.  But, we are thinking of keeping it and letting friends use it for a cheap price.  Hopefully all of us can enjoy it!

Seeing so much of the country at my age - worthless

Daddy and mommy spending so much time with us for almost 3 months - Priceless
