Day 63 - May 29 Memorial Day in South Dakota

Well let me start off by finishing up yesterdays story.  My mommy reminded me that I also got a bunch of cool stuff from all the relatives yesterday.  Lots of cool outfits and clothes.  At first like all boys I was a little disappointed to get clothes instead of toys, but then mommy reminded me that all I do is eat, burp, poop and sleep all I need is clothes and some diapers.  So, it was really nice to get some new clothes!

Today, mommy, Mason and I got up while lazy daddy stayed in bed until 10:00!!  He said he "needed it."  I told him if he would just go to sleep when I do that he would be fine.  But he says he needs "daddy time," whatever that is.  It seems to me like all the time is daddy time!  He is silly, he also missed out on some good French Toast that auntie Vanessa made.

We then hit the road and headed to Brookings.  It was about an hour and fifteen minutes in the car seat Mason and I both slept the whole way.  In Brookings we got together with mommy's good friends from Howard and SDSU, Josh and Jenny Klinkhammer.  They have three boys Carson, Conner and Gavin.  They are 7,5 and 2 they played with Mason while mommy and daddy caught up with Mr. Josh and Miss Jen.  The boys didn't play with me much, but I am used to it by now.  Give me one more year and I will show them.

Josh and Jen are building a house.  It is really nice.  They have a neat wood floor all the way around the main level.  But, they hadn't put the rail around the stairs yet so there was a whole in the floor about 3 feet by 12 feet.  We took our eye off Mason for a split second and he ran across the floor right as he was about to fall off the edge daddy yelled "stop, stop", but it was too late.  Mason fell about five or six feet and landed perfectly square on his feet on the stairs!!  He was a little shook up, but wasn't hurt at all.  Daddy said it was a good example of what we learned in church on Sunday that God is like the police he is always protecting us.

In the park there daddy was given the scoop by Josh on what was going on with his legs.  Josh says that they have "noseeum" bugs in South Dakota.  They bite you and you don't even realize it until your itchin for the rest of the night.  He said that even the bug zappers say that they kill mosquitoes, noseeums and other bugs.

Daddy has been learning some other things along the way too.  Each area of our beautiful country has a unique dialect the Midwest is no exception.  Daddy says it is a cross between the southern and the Canadian accents and immediately people can tell if you are from around here.  Here are a couple of tips if you are looking to blend in on your next visit here.  First, try to work a "you know" in about a third of your sentences.  You can actually put these in the beginning, middle or for emphasis at the end.  Second, the word have is optional when you "see" something.  It is more appropriate to say "I seen that" with an implied have than "I have seen that."  Lastly, you have to learn how to pronounce your O's a little different.  Daddy hasn't figured this one out yet, but there is something special about o's and ou's.

We (or shall I say everyone else) ate some yummy BBQ that uncle Brian cooked on the grill.  Then Jacob took Mason on his four-wheeler while once again I was stuck in the swing.  I sure have enjoyed visiting my family and making new friends.
