I would like to read some reviews of people who went through this
What is it? It is material designed to help average people attending church to know the Bible better.
Who is average? In seminary I was told to prepare for people having a fourth grade understanding of the Bible and my experience is that many people in the church just do not know it very well.
What is the purpose? I don't think you can really know and love God without knowing the word. So the purpose is to help you know and love God more closely in your daily worshipful life.
How do I do it? It will be designed to be done at your own pace, just load up the day you are on. I would suggest though that you do it with at least one other person or a small group so that you can get the encouragement and accountability you need.
Why the Bible from 300' up? I started calling it this because I realized that it wasn't going to be a foot up, we were not going to spend 2 years in every book of the Bible, but try to move through the "major" passages in each book. I also realized that it was not going to be a mile up in the air so that we couldn't get into important details that needed to be wrestled with.
Who are you to pick important chapters? Truth be told this is the toughest part for me. I wish that we would study them all. My goal is that by studying some from each era and style that you will have the tools you need to understand many of the one's we will miss when you go back.
Personal Testimony: I had been in the church for nearly 10 years and led numerous Bible Study groups and even made my living working in the church. But, the truth was I was never really given a chance to understand the Bible in a way that it all made sense to me. I didn't really know what God wanted for my life and frankly I really didn't know God, because I did not know His word. It wasn't until I got to seminary that I realized how little I knew about the Bible. I knew a lot about my concept of Jesus and the love that He had for me, but this view was only paper thin and became deeper and richer the more I studied the Bible. Seminary was a life changing moment for me. Light bulbs starting going off and for the first time in my life I really started to see how it all works and had worked. Now truth be told the more I have studied the more I realize there is to learn. But, one of the things I became convinced of was that anyone could discover the same truths as I had. So, after seminary I spent a few years compiling and reworking the things I had learned there so that others could share in my joy. In the Bible from 300 feet I have tried to give some background and direction so that you too can study the "foundational" passages of the Bible that were so helpful to me. I think that you will find the material helpful. Please also remember that the Bible itself is what holds the truth and the power not the "background" or "freebies" I might provide. I will try to pop in a freebie or two that will help you rethink some of the passages, but remember you get what you pay for. :) I would suggest trying to do one a day (take at least one day off a week though) and spend about 15 minutes on each one or longer if you like.
